About Granivore Diets

• Granivorous birds obtain most of their energy from the complex carbohydrates in seeds and grain. In particular, they have high levels of digestive enzymes required for processing the starch in their diet. In the wild, granivores eat a variety of fresh green seed, fruits, other plant material and some insects. In captivity however, these birds are often maintained on dry seed diets, which are deficient in many nutrients.
• In the breeding season, granivorous birds have an elevated requirement for protein, fat and other nutrients. This is required for proper development of eggs and to cater for the needs of their fast-growing chicks.
• In order to provide optimum health in captivity, their diet needs to be fortified with essential amino acids, fatty acids, calcium, minerals and vitamins.

Using Granivore Rearing Mix

Feed as a complete diet for hand rearing chicks or as a supplement for adult birds:

• Hand Rearing: prepare by mixing powder with warm water to make a slurry for spoon or crop feeding. Feed according to directions on pack.
• Fruit & Veg: Mix 1 scoop of powder (7.5g) with 20g diced fruit or vegetables. Feed to parrots, pigeons and frugivores.
• Egg Food: Mix 2 scoops of powder (15g) with 1 mashed hard-boiled egg. Feed to canaries, finches and breeding birds.
